Oratorio in three Acts by George Frideric Handel
Judas Maccabaeus, widely regarded as one of Handel’s most powerful works, places the biblical story of the successful resistance of the Jews against the invading Syrians in the context of the Jacobite Rising. At this performance the title role will be sung by Eric Stoklossa, the young tenor fresh from his appearances at the New York Met and at the Teatro alla Scala, Milan. Under the baton of Intendant Rolf Beck, the Schleswig- Holstein Festival Chor and the Elbipolis Barockorchester Hamburg make their Göttingen Handel Festival debut.
