Johanna Garpe

Stage director Johanna Garpe was born in Stockholm. Since graduating from Stockholm College of Opera in 1993 she has been responsible for more than 30 productions of opera, musicals and theatre. In the field of opera she has directed both newly composed and early works in contemporary settings and in period style.
Tamerlano is her third opera production in Germany, previous works having been Rossini’s Aschenputtel at Oper Kiel and Lehar’s Lustige Witwe at Oper Bonn, and over the past two years she has directed two Monteverdi operas at Drottningholm Court Theatre (DTM) in Sweden.
Together with the artistic director and conductor Professor Mark Tatlow, she is now preparing DTM’s forthcoming Mozart cycle, which will be launched with Don Giovanni in the summer of 2010. In the autumn of 2010 she will direct Dialogues des Carmelites by Poulenc at the Royal Opera House in Stockholm.
