The 2010 Göttingen International Handel Festival came to an end on Tuesday, 25 May, posting record attendance figures. More than 22,000 guests, including large numbers of lovers of Baroque music from far afield, attended a total of 96 events held in Göttingen and the surrounding region of southern Lower Saxony, in the Festival’s 90th birthday year. Nicholas McGegan has been made an OBE
Nicholas McGegan, one of the world’s leading conductors of baroque and
classical repertoire, has been made an OBE (Officer of the British
Empire) ‘for services to music overseas’ in the Queen’s Birthday Honours
list published on June 12th 2010. British honours are awarded on merit,
for exceptional achievement or service; Orders of the British Empire
are awarded mainly to civilians and service personnel for public service
or other distinctions. More

New team to head the
Göttingen International Handel Festival
The Göttingen International Handel Festival will be moving into the forthcoming festival seasons with a new team at its head. The new Managing intendant of the Festival and successor to Dr. Benedikt Poensgen will be Hermann Baumann, who takes up this position in July 2010. Following the 2011 Festival, Artistic Director Nicholas McGegan will be handing over the baton to the British conductor and harpsichordist Laurence Cummings. More
