Rescheduled date for Göttingen International Handel Festival
– Press release – Göttingen, February 8, 2021
The 2020 centenary of the Göttingen International Handel Festival already had to be postponed due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
In light of continued uncertainties on the planning horizon, the supervisory board and management of the Göttingen International Handel Festival have collectively agreed to postpone the May Festival to September 9 - 19, 2021.
"In less than 60 days, we would have actually started with staged rehearsals for the opera production Rodelinda together with international artists from the USA, Great Britain and Austria, if possible without distancing,” explains Managing Director Tobias Wolff. “However, given the current infection situation, entry to Germany appears to be unrealistic for many of them. Whether we will indeed be allowed to play before an audience again in May remains uncertain. And on top of that, several venues have not yet been able to provide us with solid confirmations for May.”
The start of advance ticket sales, previously planned for March, will also be postponed. As soon as planning is complete, advance ticket sales will also be rescheduled.
“May is and will continue to be Festival time!” says Wolff. Selected digital music formats, as well as introductory events and talks, are currently being planned for May 13 - 24.
