Laurence Cummings in Concert: Muzio Scevola
When three composers were commissioned to write an opera, this was something entirely novel for the London of 1721. Filippo Amadei was assigned the first act of the opera Muzio Scevola, Giovanni Battista Bononcini the second, and George Frideric Handel the third.
The Festival’s Artistic Director, Laurence Cummings, is not only a gifted harpsichordist. He also possesses a wonderful tenor voice, with which he relates the love story of Muzio Scevola and Clelia through selected arias.
