Rinaldo (HWV 7)
In 1711, the fantastical story about the crusader Rinaldo in Armida’s magical realm gave Handel his first major success in his new home of London. Arias such as “Lascia ch’io pianga”, “Cara sposa” and “Ah, crudel” rank among Handel’s most moving portraits of emotion and are immortal items of operatic repertoire.
The long-serving Artistic Director of the Göttingen International Handel Festival, Nicholas McGegan, returns with Rinaldo to his former musical domain. He will be accompanied by the most gifted singing prodigies of the American continent, all of them members of the elite breeding ground for talent, The Juilliard School.
