Ottone (HWV 15)

Dramma per musica (HWV 15) in three acts by George Frideric Handel

Everything is at stake, because at stake is the crown of Italy and the stability of the empire. The title character, Ottone, son of Otto I and his father's representative in northern Italy, is to unite the two kingdoms through the marriage of the Byzantine princess Teofane. However, Adelberto and his mother would rather seize the Lombard crown from Ottone.  And as is so common in Handel's operas, a power play of conspiracy, kidnapping, blackmail and betrayal unfolds. In the end, however, remorse triumphs over fury, mercy over vengeance and – to crown it all – love over hate. The production by Anna Magdalena Fitzi already premiered in 2019 as part of the Innsbruck Festival and this year will be staged in a new, exciting location at Ps.Speicher in Einbeck.
