Metamorphoses on Handel's Poro
It is said of Handel's Poro that all of London was humming the melodies of this opera within a week. The work concerning the nobility of Alexander the Great in the face of the repeatedly defeated King of Pauravan in India was a great success in London in 1731. In Göttingen, Poro first appeared on the programme in 1957. On the occasion of the major, milestone anniversary of the Göttingen International Handel Festival, local artists Stefan Kordes and Tadashi Endo have come up with something very special: an adaptation of the piece for organ and Butoh dance guarantees a fusion that is as breathtaking as it is spellbinding.
