He heralds in the Festival season every year, and the audience welcomes him with a warm applause. Laurence Cummings elicits a range of timbres from the harpsichord, using just this to create a particularly atmospheric evening that makes one long for the Festival to begin. For the opening concert as well, he is joined by the very best. This year, together with mezzo-soprano Sophie Harmsen, he presents a selection of the most beautiful Baroque arias around the theme ‘Conflicts’.
