Cancelled | Rinaldo (HWV 7)
In 1711, the fantastic story about the crusader Rinaldo in Armida’s magical realm gave Handel his first major success in his new home, London. Arias such as ‘Lascia ch’io pianga’, ‘Cara sposa’ and ‘Ah, crudel’ are some of Handel’s most poignant portraits of emotion and are regarded as immortal in the opera repertoire.
The long-serving Artistic Director of the Göttingen International Handel Festival, Nicholas McGegan, returns with Rinaldo to his former musical domain. He is accompanied by some of the most talented singers in the US, all of them from the elite centre of excellence, The Juilliard School. The ensemble Juilliard415 is celebrating its 10th anniversary in the 2019/20 season, and Rinaldo is its debut in Göttingen.
