The University of Göttingen opened the Alte Mensa conference and event building on Wilhelmsplatz in February 2016, following extensive rebuilding and renovation work in what was formerly a canteen building run by the student services organisation. Seating up to 328 people, the Adam-von-Trott-Saal on the first floor has a stage and can be used for concerts, readings and receptions. In what was once a theatre and cinema hall, a stucco ceiling in part embellished with gold leaf was discovered during the course of the refurbishment and then restored. It gives this festive hall a very special ambience.
