For many years now, events held at the Stadthalle have constituted central elements in Göttingen’s social and cultural life: not only classical concerts but also conferences, corporate events and exhibitions are professionally hosted at this flexible-purpose location. Stars in the rock and pop worlds take the stage to enthuse younger audiences, and the finest German comedians are keen to pay Göttingen a visit with guest appearances.
The Stadthalle doesn’t try to conceal its origins, the particular charm of the ‘swinging sixties’ being present in many respects in the architecture of this ensemble of buildings that opened in 1964. Today, the Stadthalle, with its comparatively long history, is a modern location offering a multitude of flexible uses and up-to-date technical facilities: 126 events and some 90,000 visitors per year are statistics that speak for themselves. A special feature is the hexagonal form of the auditorium (628 m²) with its fine acoustics: these allow both classical music and modern rock and pop to reach listeners in equal perfection. For conferences and congresses, the permanently installed sound system guarantees excellent comprehensibility of the spoken word, no matter where one is seated.
