Opera in three Acts by George Frideric Handel

Among the operatic works by George Frideric Handel, Agrippina, written in Venice in 1709, occupies a prime position. This is due not only to the outstanding music but also to the exceptionally fine libretto, which is held by no few to be one of the best the composer ever set. It is remarkable for its taut plot, sharply characterised figures and a considerable diversity of human emotions that are conveyed congenially by Handel in his music. The live recording from the 2015 Göttingen International Handel Festival underlines in convincing manner the quality of both music and text.
