Siroe, Re di Persia

Opera in three Acts by George Frideric Handel

Treachery, revenge, inheritance disputes and forbidden love at the Persian court – this explosive mixture forms the basis of the libretto by Pietro Metastasio, a text that Handel set in 1728. At the 2013 Göttingen International Handel Festival, the work was given its first performance in Germany under the musical direction of Laurence Cummings and with a top-rate cast. This live recording of Handel’s Siroe, the only CD recording of the work currently available, is the first product of a new cooperation between the ACCENT label and the Göttingen International Handel Festival.
