‘Händel 4 Kids!’ has been leading future Handel fans to the music of the great master for 13 years with workshops and children’s concerts. Youth operas such as Young Amadigi, FamilienBande: Faramondo and Beyond Doubt: Lotario, as well as a family version of the annual Festival opera present historical material in a young guise. A detailed evaluation of the programme and its formats will be carried out in 2018 together with the Institute for Music and Musicology of the University of Hildesheim.
The ‘Händel 4 Kids!’ programme is also accompanied by a multimedia website. The central blog is based on the idea ‘by children for children’. Managed by a school class, the site invites you to become creative, to discover Handel’s work in a playful and musical way, and to share your own experiences with other children.
The nationwide ‘Händel-Experiment’, a continuation of the music education project ‘Ein ARD-Konzert macht Schule’, also focuses on the Baroque composer. Pupils from the 5th grade were called upon to contribute compositions. The young musicians competed for a place in the final concert with the MDR-Sinfonieorchester with their sound collages, classical rondos and free compositions on the topic of water. A school class from the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Gymnasium in Herzberg entered the contest for the Göttingen International Handel Festival. How it turned out as well as the complete ‘Händel 4 Kids!’ programme will be available from April in the ‘Händel 4 Kids!’ booklet.
