Superstar Handel for the whole family
Handel’s dramatic works are about love, jealousy and power, subjects that will never go out of fashion. And the music he composed is as good and just as catchy as ever. The Festival aims to win over and enthuse not only adults but also children and young people for Handel’s music, and to offer a platform for young ensembles and talented artists.
The Festival presented its competition for young artists in a new form, the göttingen händel competition, and in the production of Lotario, too, new faces were taking the stage. The Festival’s programme for children and young people ‘Händel 4 Kids!’ offered a rich menu of events and activities for young and very young Handel fans, present and future. The puppet theatre production Händels Hamster developed for the 2016 Festival has been taken up in the repertoire of the Theater der Nacht in Northeim. The Festival also contributed to music education and outreach via the project pages www.haendel4kids.de, which this year were in the hands of the 4th class at the Adolf-Reichwein-Schule Göttingen. 2017 also witnessed a new youth opera production, Beyond Doubt: Lotario. Tried-and-tested formats such as the children’s university, the family version of the opera and the family day rounded off the wide range of events and activities on offer.
