Heli Siekkinen

Heli Siekkinen is a Finnish accordionist and bandoneón player whose artistic work moves fluidly between classical music, contemporary chamber music, and Argentine tango. She is known for her expressive musicianship, stylistic versatility, and long-standing international career as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer.

Siekkinen began her musical studies in Jyväskylä and graduated as an ensemble and orchestral musician from the Jyväskylä Conservatory, later completing specialist studies in music production at Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences. In addition to her formal education, she has participated in numerous national and international masterclasses. Her artistic development has been shaped by a strong classical foundation combined with a deep engagement in collaborative and cross-genre work.

As a soloist, Siekkinen has performed extensively across Europe, giving concerts in Germany, France, and Italy. Her solo projects include the J.S. Bach – Heli Siekkinen tour (2019–2020), in which she explored Bach’s music through the expressive possibilities of the accordion. She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in works such as Astor Piazzolla’s Aconcagua concerto for bandoneón and orchestra, and with numerous chamber orchestra productions.

Siekkinen has collaborated with a wide range of orchestras, including the Tallinn Philharmonic, Kuopio City Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Bitola, the University of Jyväskylä Symphony Orchestra, and several professional ensembles. Her chamber music work has been a central part of her career, with long-term projects such as Quinteto Fuego, Duo Sinivalo & Siekkinen, and various contemporary crossover ensembles.

She has performed at many prominent festivals, including the Helsinki Festival, Rauma Festivo, Lahti Organ Festival, Jyväskylä Summer Festival, World Music Festival Innsbruck, and Ohrid Jazz Breeze. In addition to concert hall work, Siekkinen has an extensive background in performing for corporate events, cultural productions, and interdisciplinary projects, and she has collaborated as a guest musician with numerous Finnish artists. Her studio work includes recordings across classical, pop, and contemporary music, and her television appearances span major Finnish broadcasters.

Alongside performing, Siekkinen has worked as an educator, teaching accordion and piano in music institutes and private studios, and has been active in artistic governance, serving in elected and board positions within national music and arts organizations.

Heli Siekkinen’s artistic profile is defined by a strong interpretative voice, long-term commitment to chamber music, and a continuous exploration of the accordion’s role in both classical and modern musical expression.

Today, Heli Siekkinen’s work moves between stage, studio, and strategy. Whether performing, producing, or developing new cultural concepts, her central motivation remains the same: to deepen the role of art in contemporary society and to build structures in which artistic work can grow, connect, and endure.
