Handel jazzt!
Jazz meets Hannover Baroque
As early as 2004, Kassel-based saxophonist Ulli Orth arranged compositions by Renaissance composer Michael Praetorius for jazz band. Now, with his project JazzArt Niedersachsen, he reveals that a true jazzman might well be hiding beneath Handel’s iconic curls.
To this end, he has gathered an ensemble of fascinating boundary crossers between early and improvised music. Lute, harpsichord, and viola da gamba, alongside voice, saxophone, and drums, form only part of the richly varied instrumentation with which this sextet brings its own compositions and arrangements of works by Handel, Bach, and Steffani to life. A concert evening full of curiosity and creative daring that transcends eras and genres alike!
